DESCRIPTION:
The Caves is truly a spectacular retreat, perched above caves carved by the sea. Hidden beneath cliffs, the grottos are perfect for swimming, snorkeling or sitting by the water's edge to view the sunset. Although located next to one of the area's oldest group of buildings, the Negril Lighthouse, The Caves property was nevertheless an untouched tropical jungle prior to joining the Island Outpost group and the native foliage has been maintained and cultivated to provide the landscaping that affords each cottage privacy from the others. It is a unique project, designed, built and operated by Bertram and Greer-Ann Saulter, local entrepreneurs and artists who have been involved in the growth of the Negril area from its infancy. ROOM CATEGORIES:
Rooms are simply decorated with hand-carved furniture and batik fabrics. Moon Shadow is a two-story self-contained unit with one bathroom (downstairs) featuring an outside shower. The master bedroom is upstairs; the bed is king-size and looks ocean-ward past a windowed seating area and louver doors leading to the balcony, which overlooks the resort's Jacuzzi and the ocean. The downstairs bedroom features a queen-size bed, writing desk and private entrance. This unit has a living room area and kitchenette (a refrigerator stocked with beverages, coffee-maker, coffee, teas, milk and sugar, mugs, glasses, and utensils) with small breakfast counter and stools. Maximum number in unit: four. Sun Dancer Sun Dancer is a two-story self-contained cottage of wood and thatch with two bathrooms. The master bedroom is upstairs; it's king-size bed looks toward the ocean through louvered double doors leading to the balcony, which extends into a sun deck. Sun Dancer has a traditional bath and shower, upstairs seating areas and writing desk complete with telescope. The second bedroom is downstairs; it features a queen-size bed with an ocean view and a small writing desk. The bathroom is part indoors and part outdoors with a private outdoor shower. It has a living room area, kitchenette (a refrigerator stocked with beverages, coffee-maker, coffee, teas, milk and sugar, mugs, glasses, utensils and toaster oven) with breakfast counter and stools, and front and back porches. Maximum number in unit: four. Sun Dancer is a deluxe two-bedroom suite. One Drop One Drop is the closest one-bed unit to the ocean. It is a self contained A-frame cottage of wood and thatch. It features a queen size canopy bed draped with mosquito netting and an outside shower. It has a seating area looking towards the ocean through foliage, and a small writing desk under a beautifully hand painted glass window. Maximum number in unit: two Bird’s Nest Bird’s Nest is a second floor unit with a great ocean view, and lots of privacy. Bird's Nest features beautiful motifs throughout, with a hand-carved king size bed and beautifully molded inside shower and bath. This unit is a deluxe suite. Blue Dolphin Blue Dolphin is a first floor unit with furnished front patio, ocean view, beautifully hand carved king size bed and beautifully molded inside shower and bath. A living / dining area and kitchenette (features a refrigerator stocked with beverages, coffee-maker, coffee, teas, milk and sugar, mugs and utensils.). Macka Tree Macka Tree is a second floor unit, the most popular of our one bedrooms. It is the ideal honeymoon suite with it's wide ocean view from the king-sized bed, draped mosquito netting, a fantastic cut-work facade, and breezy gauze curtains separating the small kitchenette (features a refrigerator stocked with beverages, coffee-maker, coffee, teas, milk and sugar, mugs and utensils) and writing desk areas from the bed. This unit is a deluxe suite. Blue Hole Blue Hole is a ground floor unit with an ocean view through the foliage, with a private patio with large Wicker chairs providing a view of the sea through a large blowhole. It features a unique king-sized bed, with a beautifully hand carved bed-head, molded into the center of the room. Butterfly Butterfly is a second floor unit with a great ocean view and handcrafted bed draped with mosquito netting. It comes with its own kitchenette (features a refrigerator stocked with beverages, coffee-maker, coffee, teas, milk and sugar, mugs, glasses and utensils.) This unit is a deluxe suite. Sea Turtle Sea Turtle is a first floor unit with ocean views and beautifully hand carved king size bed with mosquito netting. GENERAL INFORMATION:
HOW TO GET THERE: The Caves rests on the westernmost tip of Jamaica in Negril (about 90 minutes from Montego Bay Airport and 15 minutes from the Negril air strip). TRANSPORTATION Airport Transfers From Montego Bay By road: a scenic 1 1/2 hour journey along the coast with one of the resort's designated drivers in an air-conditioned mini-bus. The minimum charge is US$75 one way and is good for up to three passengers. For more than three persons, the cost is an additional US$25 per person. Driver meets guest outside customs; look for "The Caves" sign card. (Driver will usually identify guests before exit through the customs dispatcher services available to registered JUTA drivers). By airplane charter: Flying time from Montego Bay is approximately 15 minutes and costs approximately US$55 per person (depending on size of group). Most aircraft are single engine Cessna. Guest will be met outside of customs by charter personnel. The plane lands at the Negril Aerodrome, where The Caves driver will meet guests and escort them on a fifteen minute ride to the resort, it is a short 15 minute ride. Air Jamaica also offers scheduled domestic flights to Negril. By helicopter: prices available upon request. OTHER TRANSFERS Negril Aerodrome to The Caves: Minimum charge is US$25 up to three persons; per person is US$10. The Caves to Jake's: US$125 each way.
